Blazing Skies came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed by Namco. You pilot a lone fighter plane through six lengthy stages, each culminating in a large boss. Your main goal is to survive the onslaught, destroying everything in your path to rack up a high score. The game gives you a standard shot and a screen clearing bomb, but its signature mechanics are the charge shot and the option pods. Holding down the fire button builds a more powerful laser burst, while collecting power ups deploys floating drones that mirror your attacks and absorb enemy bullets. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all directions almost immediately, and the difficulty is steep, especially in the later levels where memorizing attack patterns becomes essential.
