About Blackthorne (beta)
Blackthorne came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It was part of that era on the SNES where games were experimenting with cinematic presentation and darker themes, fitting right in with titles like Flashback or Another World.
You control Kyle Blackthorne, a commando who returns to his homeworld to overthrow an evil sorcerer. The game plays out screen by screen; you explore caverns, ruins, and fortresses, fighting off mutants and goblins with your shotgun or your own fists. A key mechanic is the ability to hug the foreground to take cover from enemy fire, then lean out to shoot. You also solve simple environmental puzzles, like finding keys or blowing up blocked passages with grenades. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush in. Playing it feels like navigating a grim, interactive comic book where every shot and jump counts.
