Beethoven’s 2nd on SNES is exactly what you’d expect from a 90s movie tie-in—goofy, a little janky, but weirdly charming. You play as Beethoven (the big, slobbery St. Bernard) trying to track down his four missing puppies across four different levels. Jump with B, shake off water with A, and—my personal favorite—pick stuff up with your mouth using Y. Barking at enemies with X is as ridiculous as it sounds.
The first half of each level has you sniffing out a lost pup, then backtracking while carrying them in your jaws like a furry delivery service. It’s not exactly a precision platformer—controls are kinda floaty, and some jumps feel like luck—but there’s something endearing about the chaos. The wet dog shake animation alone is worth a laugh.
Definitely a product of its time, but if you’re into retro oddities or just really love cartoon dogs, it’s a short, silly romp.
