Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is that SNES game you pick up thinking, "Oh cool, a beat 'em up with attitude," and then five minutes later you're staring at the Game Over screen wondering what just happened. The toads have this weird, exaggerated charm—like someone took Saturday morning cartoons and cranked the absurdity to 11. One minute you're punching lizard goons, the next you're dodging instant-death obstacles on a turbo bike that feels like it's actively trying to murder you.
And yeah, the difficulty is no joke. Even the early levels demand pixel-perfect jumps and split-second reactions. But there's something weirdly satisfying about finally nailing that one stupid section after the 20th try. Just don't expect to breeze through it—this game chews up casual players and spits them out.
If you're into masochistic platformers with a side of ridiculous '90s attitude, this one's a classic for a reason.
