Battle Grand Prix came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Naxat Soft. It was part of that early wave of SNES racers, arriving before the more famous titles had fully defined the genre. You control a single race car from a top-down perspective, navigating tight, maze-like tracks. The main objective is to win a series of cups by finishing in the top positions across multiple races. Your car has a turbo boost for short bursts of speed, but using it overheats your engine, forcing you to manage it carefully. You also pick up items from question mark panels on the track; these can be offensive weapons like missiles or defensive shields. The other drivers are aggressive, often boxing you in or firing their own weapons, which makes the races consistently challenging. It feels like a constant, hectic scramble for position from the starting line to the checkered flag.
