You control Batman directly, moving from left to right across stages filled with thugs and themed bosses. Your main goal is to punch and kick your way through these enemies, using a limited supply of Batarangs for ranged attacks. The game is known for its screen by screen exploration, where you clear one area of foes before proceeding to the next. You can also use a grappling hook to reach higher platforms, adding a small vertical element to the navigation.
