About Batman (proto)
Batman (Proto) was a 1992 release for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Sunsoft. It arrived during a period when licensed games were common, and this title was an early attempt to bring the character to the 16-bit platform, preceding the more well-known Batman Returns. The game exists as an interesting prototype, showing a different direction for a Batman game on the SNES before the final product was settled.
You control Batman, moving through stages that scroll both horizontally and vertically. Your main objective is to fight through waves of thugs and overcome environmental obstacles to confront bosses like Two-Face. Your primary actions involve punching and kicking enemies; you can also use a grappling hook to reach higher platforms, which adds a layer of navigation. The pacing is methodical, as you carefully clear each screen of enemies before proceeding, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with limited continues. Playing it feels like testing an unfinished blueprint, where the core brawler mechanics are present but not yet fully realized.
