Batman Forever came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was one of many licensed games from that era, arriving when the SNES was still the dominant 16-bit console. The game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up that loosely follows the plot of the movie, putting you against villains like Two-Face and The Riddler.

You control either Batman or Robin, moving from left to right through stages that include city streets and villain hideouts. Your main goal is to punch and kick your way through waves of thugs, occasionally fighting larger sub-bosses. The game uses a digitized sprite style, and a key mechanic is the grappling hook, which lets you ascend to higher platforms or pull down certain enemies. You also have a limited supply of Batarangs to throw at foes who are out of reach. The pacing is fairly quick, but the enemy patterns can be unforgiving, leading to some frustrating difficulty spikes. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky brawl where you rely on a few simple moves to push forward.
