About Bastard!! - Ankoku No Hakai-shin
Bastard!! Ankoku No Hakai-shin came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, developed by Cobra Team. It was part of that wave of action RPGs that tried to capture the feel of a console adventure, with a fantasy setting and a focus on exploration. The game is based on the manga, so if you knew the characters, it probably had a little extra pull back then.
You control the wizard warrior Dark Schneider, moving him screen by screen through dungeons and towns. Your main goal is to stop a resurrection plot, which involves navigating maze-like areas, fighting monsters in real time, and finding keys to unlock new sections. Combat is straightforward; you swing your sword or use a limited selection of magic spells. The pacing can be slow because you backtrack often, and the difficulty comes from figuring out where to go next with minimal guidance. Playing it feels like a methodical crawl through a dark, interconnected world where every new door is a small victory.
