BS Super Mahjong Taikai is one of those weird, late-era SNES games that only came out in Japan—and honestly, it’s a solid mahjong sim if you’re into that. The tiles look crisp, the AI doesn’t pull cheap moves, and there’s just enough flair in the animations to keep it from feeling like a spreadsheet. First time I booted it up, I got wrecked by some old lady NPC who clearly had decades of virtual tile-slamming experience.
It’s got that classic ‘90s mahjong vibe—no gimmicks, just straight-up riichi gameplay with a clean interface. The music’s oddly chill for a game about aggressively stealing tiles from strangers. If you’ve ever wanted to practice mahjong without the pressure of real-life opponents side-eyeing your terrible discards, this one’s a decent pick. Just don’t expect any wild power-ups or anime cutscenes.
