I first played Asterix & Obelix on the Super Nintendo in 1995, a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag. Infogrames published it, and it stood out for being a side scrolling beat 'em up that actually felt like it had some care put into it. It wasn't trying to be the next big thing on the system, just a solid game based on the comic books I already enjoyed.

You control either Asterix or Obelix, moving from left to right across distinct screens that lock you in until you defeat all the Romans. Asterix is quick and uses his sword, while Obelix is slower but can punch enemies and throw menhirs, the giant stones he's always carrying. The main goal is to rescue Getafix the druid, which means fighting through legions of soldiers, dodging projectiles, and occasionally dealing with environmental hazards. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike in later levels, demanding good timing to avoid getting swarmed. It feels like a chaotic brawl where a well timed punch can clear a whole crowd.
