Ashita no Joe on SNES is one of those old-school fighting games that feels rough around the edges but has its own charm. You play as Joe Yabuki, the scrappy underdog boxer from the classic manga, throwing punches in a pretty straightforward brawler. The controls are basic—jabs, hooks, the usual—but there’s something satisfying about landing a clean combo and watching the opponent stagger.
It’s not exactly Street Fighter, but the sprite work captures Joe’s look well, and the stages have this gritty, early ‘90s vibe. The single-player mode is short, just working your way up through opponents, but the two-player versus mode is where it gets fun if you’ve got a friend who’s into retro stuff. Just don’t expect deep mechanics—this is more about nostalgia than technical depth.
If you’re a fan of the manga or just curious about obscure SNES fighters, it’s a neat little time capsule.
