About Art Of Fighting (europe)
I remember picking up Art of Fighting for the Super Nintendo in 1994, a port of SNK's arcade fighter. It was a time when every developer was trying to carve out a space in the fighting game boom, and this one arrived with its own distinct look and feel.
You control one of two martial artists, Ryo Sakazaki or Robert Garcia, on a mission to rescue Ryo's kidnapped sister. The game plays out in one-on-one fights across a series of city locations. Its signature mechanics include a super gauge that builds as you take damage, allowing you to unleash a powerful desperation move when nearly defeated. You can also taunt your opponent to drain their spirit gauge, which weakens their special attacks. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise inputs to survive. It feels like a tough, technical brawler where every successful move is a hard-won victory.
