About Arrakis

Arrakis is a real-time strategy game released in 2000 for MS-DOS. The game is set in a science fiction universe and is viewed from a top-down perspective. It features three distinct single-player campaigns, which together comprise over thirty missions. Alongside these campaigns, the game includes a skirmish mode for battles against computer opponents, a random map generator for that mode, and a map editor for creating custom scenarios.

Players command the military forces of one of three Great Houses: Atreides, Harkonnen, or Ordos. The primary objective is to gather resources, construct a base, and build an army to defeat enemy forces across a series of missions. Gameplay mechanics are similar to those found in the Command & Conquer series, utilizing a point-and-click interface, group unit selection, and a vertical sidebar for managing construction. Progression involves securing resource points, developing a technology tree of structures and units, and engaging in direct combat. Although all three factions share the same basic units and buildings, each receives specific modifiers to unit statistics such as cost, armor, speed, and firepower, giving them distinct tactical characteristics.

The visual presentation uses custom graphics that share a stylistic resemblance with other real-time strategy titles of its era. Sound effects are adapted from an earlier game in the setting. The game engine supports the playback of custom audio files, though no dedicated musical score is included. The overall structure provides a traditional real-time strategy experience focused on base building, resource management, and tactical combat across its campaign and skirmish offerings.
