Arcus Odyssey came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, developed by Wolf Team. It was part of that early wave of SNES games, arriving when developers were still figuring out what the hardware could do. You got a lot of action RPGs then, and this one fit right in, offering a particular kind of top-down adventure.

You control one of four heroes, like a warrior or a sorceress, and your goal is to stop an evil sorcerer from reviving a dark god. You move screen by screen through dungeons and overworld areas, clearing out monsters with your sword or bow. A key mechanic is the ability to aim your attacks in eight directions, which gives you a bit more control in the often crowded rooms. You also collect keys to unlock doors and search for items to power up your character. The game moves at a brisk pace and can be quite difficult, with enemies swarming you from all sides. Playing it feels like a constant, hectic scramble for survival.
