Appleseed: Prometheus No Shintaku is one of those SNES games that flew under the radar outside Japan, which is a shame because it’s a solid side-scroller with that classic manga vibe. You pick between Briareos (the cyborg dude with the wild helmet) or Deunan (the no-nonsense fighter), and honestly, Briareos feels a little tankier, but Deunan’s quicker—your call.

It’s mostly run-and-gun with some platforming, but the controls are smooth, and the sprites have that gritty 90s anime look. The first level throws you right into a city under siege, dodging enemy fire while jumping gaps—nothing too crazy, but it gets trickier when the mechs show up. The music’s got that SNES synth-rock thing going, which fits perfectly.

If you’re into the manga or just want a decent action game that isn’t another Mario clone, this one’s worth a play.
