I remember picking up An American Tail: Fievel Goes West for the Super Nintendo back in 1994. It was developed by Hudson Soft, a company known for a lot of solid platformers on the system. This game fit right into that era, a side-scrolling adventure based on the animated movie, which was a pretty common source for games at the time.

You control Fievel Mousekewitz, and your main goal is to rescue your family and friends from the villainous Cat R. Waul. The gameplay is straightforward platforming; you run and jump through different levels, from a dusty town to a saloon and a mine cart ride. You collect coins and use a lasso to stun enemy cats, which is your primary way of dealing with them. The levels are screen by screen, so you move from one fixed section to the next, and there's a fair bit of searching for the correct path. The pacing can feel a bit slow, and some of the jumps require precise timing, making it a decent challenge for a movie tie-in.
