American Gladiators came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Incredible Technologies. It was part of that wave of games based on TV shows, trying to capture the over the top competition of the original program. On the SNES, it was a straightforward attempt to bring the physical challenges of the show into a 16-bit format.

You control a contestant competing against the show's gladiators in a series of events. The main goal is to win each mini game to earn points and ultimately become the champion. Key events include Joust, where you try to knock the gladiator off a platform with a pugil stick; Assault, which involves navigating an obstacle course while firing a tennis ball cannon at targets; and The Wall, a race to the top of a climbing surface. The game moves quickly between events, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when facing the powered up AI gladiators. It feels like a chaotic and sometimes unforgiving translation of the TV spectacle into button mashing and timing.
