Alien 3 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1993, developed by Probe Software. It was one of many licensed games from that period, arriving when the SNES library was full of action titles trying to capture the feel of popular films. You step into the boots of Ellen Ripley, the character from the movies, but this version tells its own story separate from the third film.

You control Ripley from a side view, moving through the industrial corridors of a prison facility. Your main goal is to rescue survivors and destroy the alien eggs before a timer counts down to a reactor meltdown. The game is structured screen by screen; you explore each area, use a limited supply of flamethrower ammunition and pulse rifle rounds to fight xenomorphs, and find keycards to unlock new sections. It is a difficult game, with aggressive enemies and a constant pressure from the ticking clock. Playing it feels like a tense, methodical scramble against overwhelming odds.
