About 90 Minutes - European Prime Goal (europe)
I picked up 90 Minutes: European Prime Goal for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1995. It was a Konami release, one of many sports titles trying to capture the football craze on the 16-bit console. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel; it was just another option on the shelf for fans of the sport.
You control a team of eleven players, switching between them to pass, tackle, and shoot. The main objective is straightforward: score more goals than the opposing team within the 90-minute match time. A couple of its mechanics stood out, like the through-pass system for sending a teammate on a run and the ability to charge up a powerful shot at the cost of accuracy. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents can be surprisingly tenacious on higher difficulty settings, making you work for every scoring chance. It feels like a competent, if unspectacular, arcade-style football match from that era.
