7th Saga - The New Class is one of those SNES RPGs that starts simple but gets brutal fast. You pick one of seven characters—mage, knight, robot, demon, you name it—and immediately realize they all play wildly different. My first run was with the elf, which... let’s just say I regretted that around the third boss.
The world’s got that classic 16-bit charm, but don’t let the bright colors fool you. Battles are unforgiving, and grinding isn’t optional—it’s survival. The coolest part? Rival adventurers actually level up alongside you, so if you slack off, they’ll wreck you later. Nothing like getting stomped by a dude you ignored three dungeons ago.
It’s got that weird, slightly janky translation all the best SNES RPGs have, but the atmosphere sticks with you. That moment when the music kicks in during a night battle? Still gives me chills.
