Players begin with a set amount of capital to invest in shares of up to eight different railroad companies. By acquiring a majority of a company's stock, a player becomes its president and gains direct control over its operations. This includes laying track on a hexagonal map, constructing stations, purchasing trains, and establishing routes to generate revenue for the company. The core progression involves managing these corporate assets while simultaneously trading shares on a dynamic stock market.

The primary objective is to accumulate personal wealth, measured by a combination of cash holdings and the total value of owned stock. Players can employ various financial tactics, such as directing company funds for personal gain, influencing stock prices through strategic trading, or transferring control of failing companies to other shareholders. The game concludes either when the collective earnings of all players deplete the central bank or when a participant declares bankruptcy. The winner is the player with the highest net worth at the end of the session.
