Zool is a side scrolling platform game released in 1993 for MS DOS, developed and published by Gremlin Graphics Software Limited. The player controls Zool, a gremlin from another dimension who lands on Earth with the objective of achieving the rank of a ninja. To accomplish this, he must navigate through a series of distinct worlds.

The gameplay involves guiding Zool through levels viewed from the side. He can run, jump, climb on walls, and fire projectiles at enemies. The game is structured across six primary worlds, each containing three stages filled with environmental hazards and foes. Players collect various power ups scattered throughout the levels, which can grant temporary abilities such as a protective shield, a more powerful jump, or a smart bomb. One notable power up creates a duplicate of Zool that mimics his movements a short time later. Progression requires overcoming platforming challenges and defeating enemies to reach the end of each stage.

Before starting, players can adjust several game settings, including the difficulty level, the number of continues, and the overall game speed. The game features different background music tracks. Each world presents a unique theme, such as a candy filled environment, a musical landscape, or a garden setting, with corresponding enemies and obstacles. A seventh hidden world diverges from the platforming mechanics, offering a space shooter style of gameplay. The levels contain various collectibles and points can be earned through specific actions, like traversing a giant keyboard.
