About Zone 66
Zone 66 is a top-down scrolling shooter released in 1993 for MS-DOS. Developed by Renaissance and published by Epic MegaGames, the game places players in control of a combat aircraft across eight distinct missions. The narrative follows a pilot who returns home to find his family killed, leading him on a campaign of vengeance against an unknown terrorist force.
Players select from a variety of aircraft, each with different performance statistics, before beginning a mission. They can then customize their plane's payload within a weight limit, choosing from weapons such as missiles and bombs. During missions, the aircraft can move freely in any direction to evade enemy fire or line up attacks against both airborne and ground targets, including tanks and other units. A radar display assists in navigation and locating objectives.
Gameplay involves destroying all primary ground targets to complete a mission. Players can launch bombs using a target indicator positioned ahead of the aircraft and can perform two specific defensive maneuvers. A key feature is the ability to return to supply bays scattered across the map to repair damage, restock ammunition, or even switch to a different aircraft and loadout. The player has unlimited attempts to complete a mission unless all available supply bays are destroyed by enemy forces.
