Zeliard is an action role-playing game released in 1990 for MS-DOS. Developed by Game Arts Co., Ltd. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc., the game presents its world from a side view perspective. Players take on the role of Duke Garland, who embarks on a quest after the ancient demon Jashiin awakens and petrifies Princess Felicia with a curse.

The player controls Garland through a series of interconnected areas, using a sword for direct combat and a shield for defense. Progression often requires collecting specific crests and keys to unlock new regions. Garland can also learn and cast projectile magic spells to attack enemies from a distance. Throughout the journey, he encounters environmental hazards such as hidden spikes and extreme heat, which can deplete his health, though falls from platforms are not harmful. The primary objective is to gather the Nine Tears of Esmesanti, items needed to break the curse on the princess and ultimately confront the demon Jashiin.

Garland visits various towns where he can rest to restore health, purchase or repair equipment, and buy potions. Currency is obtained by exchanging enemy spirits, called almas, for gold at banks. These almas also function as experience points; accumulating a sufficient amount allows the player to receive permanent upgrades to health and magic points from a sage in town. Additionally, Garland can equip different types of clothing that provide specific enhancements, such as increased jump height or immunity to slipping on icy surfaces, while other special items can temporarily boost attack power or provide additional protection.
