The player controls a fisherman recruited by the character Moebius from a previous title. The primary objective is to follow a destined journey across a world populated by ninja assassins and magical creatures. The game world features a day and night cycle with variable weather, and is inhabited by various characters and creatures like villagers and giant beetles that go about their own routines.

The role playing elements utilize a pseudo 3D system rather than a traditional top down view. Players can engage with hundreds of characters through conversation and explore magical disciplines including Deism and Shamanism.
