About Virus
Virus is a science fiction shooter released in 1988 for MS-DOS. Developed by Frontier Developments Ltd. and published by Firebird Software, the game presents a third person perspective scenario where an alien infestation is spreading a lethal virus across Earth. The player's objective is to halt this invasion before the planet is completely consumed.
The player controls a spacecraft tasked with eliminating alien forces and containing the viral outbreak. Progression is structured through individual levels, each representing a segment of the planet's surface. A primary gameplay system involves aerial combat, where managing the ship's direction, altitude, and thrust is essential for navigation and engagement. A scanner provides tactical information by highlighting alien locations. Another key system is the infection mechanic, where the player's final score for a level is directly tied to the percentage of land that remains uninfected, creating a constant time pressure. The game world is presented with a distinctive terrain effect, featuring protruding trees and simulated gravity, which factors into the flight dynamics.
