Treasure Trap is an isometric action game released in 1990 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed by Doodlebug Designs Ltd. and published by Electronic Zoo, the game incorporates puzzle elements within an interwar period setting. Its visual style and perspective are similar to titles like Head Over Heels, though it presents a more concrete narrative premise.

The player controls Howard Kelp, a treasure hunter who explores the sunken wreck of the cargo ship Esmerelda in search of gold. The primary objective is to navigate through a sequence of one hundred rooms, collecting gold bars while managing various environmental hazards. The main adversaries are hostile sea creatures that inhabit the shipwreck. The character cannot attack directly but is equipped with a limited supply of "smart fishes," which are trained piranhas that can eliminate all enemies in a room when deployed. Since these are scarce, players often must avoid creatures by maintaining distance, jumping over them, or using boxes and other objects to create barriers.

Progression involves solving environmental puzzles to access new areas. Some doors are locked and require geometric-shaped keys, which the player can collect and store in a three-slot inventory. An air gauge constantly depletes as the character explores, requiring the collection of compressed air tanks found in certain rooms to replenish it. The game allows the player to save their progress automatically after collecting every fifty gold bars. This structure encourages careful resource management and strategic navigation through the interconnected rooms of the shipwreck.
