Time Commando is an action-adventure game released in 1996 for MS-DOS. Developed by Adeline Software International and published by Activision, Inc., the game blends fantasy and science fiction elements. It is presented from a third-person perspective and follows a narrative set in a near future where a military combat simulation has been corrupted.

The player controls Stanley Opar, an agent tasked with entering a corrupted simulation to eliminate a virus threatening the world. His mission takes him through eight distinct historical and futuristic time periods, including Prehistoric, Roman Empire, Feudal Japan, and a Future era. Progression is structured through these linear levels, each with a time limit. A core gameplay system involves combat, where the player utilizes era-specific weapons such as rocks, katanas, revolvers, and laser pistols against period-appropriate enemies. Navigation and combat mechanics are character-based, similar to certain survival horror titles of the period, with Stanley having access to several attack moves and a block.

Throughout the levels, players collect computer chips which can be deposited in special orb pools to reduce the level's time limit. Stanley begins with a limited health bar, which can be extended by collecting life power-ups, and he has multiple lives. The game's environments are depicted using animated pre-rendered sequences, while characters are represented by polygonal models. The primary objective remains consistent across all eras: to defeat enemies, manage resources, and advance to defeat the virus before the time expires.
