About The Third Courier
The Third Courier is a detective and mystery adventure game released in 1989 for MS-DOS. Developed by Manley & Associates and published by Accolade, it is a first-person point and click title set in Cold War era Germany.
Players assume the role of an American spy tasked with recovering stolen NATO defense plans. The game begins in the character's apartment, which contains various tools and items like a computer, bugging equipment, a passport, and money. Navigation is handled using an on-screen compass, with indicators on the status screen signaling points of interest to the east or west. Progression involves exploring city streets using taxis and the Autobahn, conversing with characters, and purchasing key objects to advance the investigation.
Core gameplay revolves around exploration, dialogue, and stealth. Players must gather information by talking to important figures and then covertly spy on suspicious individuals. The environment can present hazards, as encounters with enemy agents, muggers, or vagrants can escalate into combat. In these situations, players must use their firearm promptly to defend themselves. The experience is structured around methodically uncovering clues and navigating the dangers of the espionage landscape to complete the central mission.
