In the game, players guide Mowgli on a journey through the jungle to reach a human village, as he is being hunted by the tiger Shere Khan. The primary objective is to navigate through a series of levels, each requiring Mowgli to collect a set number of crystals within a time limit to progress. A compass displayed on screen indicates the direction of the nearest crystal to aid in this task. Throughout his adventure, Mowgli encounters various characters from the source material, including Bagheera, Baloo, King Louie, and the snake Kaa.

Gameplay involves running, jumping, and using vines to swing or climb across the environments. Mowgli faces hostile wildlife and must defend himself using thrown weapons such as bananas and boomerangs found in the levels. The challenge escalates across stages, culminating in a confrontation with Shere Khan. The structure is linear, with progression dependent on successfully completing each stage by gathering the required crystals before time expires.
