About The Incredible Machine
The Incredible Machine is a puzzle game released in 1993 for MS-DOS. Developed by Dynamix and published by Sierra On-Line, the game presents players with a series of physics-based puzzles viewed from a side perspective. The core concept involves constructing elaborate chain-reaction devices to accomplish simple tasks.
Players are presented with a specific objective in each level, such as moving a ball into a basket or activating a fan. To solve these puzzles, players arrange and connect a variety of provided parts on the playfield. These components include items like balls, ropes, balloons, seesaws, and animals. The player must position these elements so that, when the sequence is initiated, they interact through physics to complete the goal. Some puzzles introduce variables like altered gravity or air pressure, which affect how the parts behave and add complexity to the solutions.
The game also features a freeform construction mode. In this mode, players have access to an unlimited supply of parts to design and build their own custom chain-reaction machines. Creations made in this mode can be saved to a disk for later viewing or further modification, allowing for open-ended experimentation beyond the structured puzzle levels.
