About The First Samurai
The First Samurai is a side-view platform action game released for MS-DOS in 1992. Developed by Vivid Image and published by Ubi Soft Entertainment Software, the game blends arcade-style combat and platforming within a fantasy setting inspired by medieval Japan.
Players control a lone samurai warrior navigating a series of side-scrolling stages. The primary objective is to advance through these levels, defeating the various enemies and supernatural creatures that inhabit them. Progression is structured around real-time combat and precise platform navigation, with players utilizing a sword for direct attacks and a selection of magical spells for ranged or area-of-effect capabilities. The gameplay involves exploring each stage, which often includes environmental hazards and platforming challenges, while managing limited resources like health and magic power.
Beyond basic combat, the game incorporates a character progression system where the samurai can discover and equip different magical orbs, each granting a specific spell. These spells become essential tools for overcoming particular enemies or obstacles. The game's structure requires players to master both the timing of martial arts-inspired swordplay and the strategic use of these magical abilities to survive the increasingly complex stages and confront the bosses that guard key areas.
