The Dagger of Amon Ra is a detective mystery adventure game released in 1992 for MS-DOS. Developed and published by Sierra On-Line, it is a sequel to The Colonel's Bequest. The game is presented from a third person perspective and uses a point and click interface. Players assume the role of Laura Bow, a recent college graduate working as a reporter for a New York newspaper.

The story begins with Laura attending a party at the Leyendecker Museum to cover the unveiling of an ancient Egyptian dagger. When a murder occurs and the dagger is stolen, Laura and the other guests are locked inside the building. The player's objective is to guide Laura through the museum, investigate the crime, and identify the killer before becoming a victim. Gameplay focuses on exploration, conversing with the other characters to gather clues, and using collected inventory items at appropriate times. The game world operates on a timed schedule, where certain events and information only become available in specific locations at particular moments. Progression is measured by discovering clues and piecing together the narrative, culminating in a final sequence where Laura must present her deductions by answering a series of questions about the crimes.

Interaction with the environment and other characters is managed through an icon based interface, a change from the text parser used in the previous game. Players select icons to perform actions such as looking, taking items, or moving. Conversations are conducted by choosing topics from a list after selecting an ask command. The CD release of the game includes full voice acting for all dialogue and narration.
