In single player mode, the player selects a character for themselves and an additional character for the computer to control. The computer controlled partner operates with its own artificial intelligence, capable of engaging enemies, collecting items, and activating doors independently. For two players, the game supports cooperative play, with each participant choosing a different mercenary.
