About Techno Cop (dos)
Techno Cop is an arcade style action game released in 1988 for MS-DOS computers. Developed by Gray Matter Inc. and published by U.S. Gold Ltd., it is a licensed title set in a near-future cyberpunk environment. The game presents its action from a behind-the-view perspective, combining driving and run and gun mechanics within a dark sci-fi setting.
Players control a police officer tasked with removing criminal elements from a city. The game alternates between two distinct mission phases. The first phase involves driving a vehicle through city streets, where the objective is to locate and destroy hostile cars that appear. After completing this driving segment, the action shifts to a side-scrolling format. In this phase, the officer navigates through multi-level buildings, jumping across gaps, using elevators, and engaging numerous enemies with ranged weapons. This section culminates in a confrontation with a boss character.
Progression is mission-based, with each level following this two-part structure. Upon defeating or apprehending the target villain in the side-scrolling segment, the player returns to the driving phase to begin the next assignment. The core gameplay loop consistently cycles between high-speed vehicular combat and precise platforming and shooting sequences, maintaining a brisk pace throughout the experience.
