About Street Rod
Street Rod is a racing and management simulation game released in 1989 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed by Magic Partners and published by California Dreams, the game is set in the United States in 1963. Players assume the role of a young driver aiming to become the top street racer in the county, beginning with a modest budget to purchase a first vehicle.
The player controls a driver from a first-person perspective during races. The primary objective is to earn money and reputation by winning street races, which are often wagered for cash or the opponent's car title, known as a pink slip. Progression involves using earnings to buy, upgrade, and tune vehicles for better performance, while also managing finances and engaging in vehicle trading. A key gameplay system is the garage interface, which serves as the central hub; interactive elements like a clock access the main menu and a newspaper is used to browse and purchase cars and parts. Another system involves direct negotiation when selling a car, allowing for price haggling. The game incorporates a character who provides commentary and guidance, adding context to the player's actions within this virtual world.
