About Stella The Cat (sonic 1 Hack)
Stella the Cat is a hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive. It was created by a developer known as Kaze Emanuar, who is well known for various ROM hacks. This modification reimagines the classic 1991 platformer by replacing Sonic with a new feline protagonist, fitting right into the era of fan-made cartridges and downloadable patches that extended the life of the 16-bit console.
You control Stella, a cat who runs, jumps, and spins through familiar zones that have been visually and structurally altered. The main goal remains to traverse each stage from left to right, defeat Robotnik's machines, and collect rings for protection. Her movement has a different weight and acceleration compared to Sonic, changing how you approach loops and enemy patterns. The level layouts are new, often requiring more cautious platforming and exploration to find alternate routes. It feels like revisiting a childhood game through a slightly different, more deliberate lens.
