About Steg The Slug
Steg the Slug is a puzzle solving game released in 1993 for the MS DOS platform. It was developed by The Big Red Software Company Ltd. and published by Codemasters Software Company Limited. The game presents a side view perspective where players control the titular character, Steg.
The player guides Steg through a series of levels with the primary objective of feeding his family, the T'yungunz. This is accomplished by blowing bubbles to capture grubs, which serve as food. The captured grubs must then be carefully guided to the T'yungunz nest by blowing on the bubbles or nudging them around obstacles. A level is completed once a required number of T'yungunz have been fed enough to fall asleep; failure to provide sufficient food results in their demise. The environments contain various hazards like spikes and fire, which can pop the bubbles, as well as interactive devices such as bellows and switches that can alter the stage.
Steg navigates the levels primarily by walking on floors, but he can also climb walls and traverse ceilings. His movement capabilities can be expanded by constructing devices from parts found in the Acme Bionic Bitz Catalogue. These devices, which include items like a Rocket Pack and Bionic Legs, provide alternative methods for moving through the level layouts and overcoming the puzzles presented by the contraptions and obstacles.
