Star Wars: Rebel Assault is a science fiction action game released in 1993 for MS-DOS. Developed and published by LucasArts, it is presented primarily from a first-person perspective. The game follows an original narrative featuring the character Rookie One, incorporating events inspired by the Star Wars films, including training sequences, planetary assaults, and major space battles.

Players control various starfighters such as Skyhoppers, A-Wings, X-Wings, and Snowspeeders across fifteen levels. The gameplay consists largely of on-rails flight sequences, where pre-rendered video backdrops create the environments. These sequences are viewed from different perspectives, including behind the craft, from an overhead angle, or from the first-person cockpit. Objectives involve navigating through canyons, asteroid fields, and caves, while engaging in combat against enemies like TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, and Imperial Walkers. Some levels offer branching paths, and one stage features on-foot combat against stormtroopers on static screens, where the player can move sideways to avoid fire.

Progression through the game is linear, with the challenge focused on dodging obstacles and accurately targeting enemies. The third-person flight sections allow for limited free movement to avoid hazards, while the first-person segments emphasize precise shooting within a confined range of motion. The game employs a password system to save progress; in the console versions a password is provided after each level, while the PC version grants one after completing a group of levels.
