About Space Ace Ii: Borf’s Revenge
Space Ace II: Borf's Revenge is a science fiction action game released for MS-DOS in 1991. Developed and published by ReadySoft Incorporated, it is a port of an earlier arcade laserdisc game. The title falls into the full motion video genre, presenting its narrative through animated cartoon sequences.
The player assists the protagonist, Dexter, who can transform into the hero Space Ace to confront enemies. Gameplay consists of navigating through a series of 27 short animated scenes. The player does not control characters directly but instead presses specific keys at precise moments to influence the on-screen action. These inputs, using cursor keys for movement and the insert key to shoot, are required to avoid hazards, traps, and enemy attacks. Each scene typically requires between one and three correct keystrokes to proceed successfully.
Progression is dependent on correct timing, as an incorrect or mistimed input results in a failure animation and the loss of one of Dexter's three lives. The primary objective is to guide the character through the entire sequence of scenes without exhausting these lives. Due to storage limitations on the personal computer platform, many scenes from the original arcade version are presented in a shortened form. The game allows players to save their progress at four predetermined points during the adventure.
