Sorcerian is a fantasy action role-playing game released for MS-DOS in 1990, developed by Nihon Falcom Corp. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc. The game is set in the land of Pentawa, where a king hires a party of adventurers for a quest to retrieve a scepter from a dungeon guarded by a demonic lord. It presents its world from a side view perspective, blending role-playing systems with side-scrolling exploration and combat.

Players begin by creating a party of four characters, selecting from fighter, wizard, elf, and dwarf roles. In the game's towns, characters can visit inns and shops, develop a wide array of magical spells across different disciplines, train to improve personal attributes like strength and intelligence, enchant weapons with elemental magic, and take on various part-time jobs. This town-based phase focuses on preparing the party through character development and equipment management before embarking on quests.

When the party enters a dungeon or hostile area, the perspective shifts to side-scrolling. The player controls the entire party in real time, with the lead character being changeable at any moment; the front character performs all melee attacks and interactions. Combat involves pressing buttons for attacks and spellcasting, while characters can also jump and interact with objects by making contact. The dungeons are often maze-like and can include environmental puzzles, such as locating hidden switches to progress. Progression through these areas involves navigating these layouts, managing the party in combat, and utilizing the abilities developed in town.
