About Sonic Crackers (japan) (proto)
Sonic Crackers is a prototype cartridge for the Sega Genesis, an unreleased project from Sega that surfaced as a ROM. It exists as a technical experiment from that era, a glimpse into the development process before the 32X game Knuckles' Chaotix.
You control two characters, Sonic and Tails, who are linked by a rubber band. The main goal is to navigate compact, single-screen stages, collecting all the floating rings to open the exit. The core mechanic is managing the elastic tether between the characters; you can swing or throw your partner to reach higher platforms, but a careless move sends them both flying. The stages are small puzzles demanding coordination, and the physics feel unpredictable, making progress a matter of trial and error. Playing it feels like wrestling with an unfinished concept, where every successful maneuver is a small victory against the game's own janky rules.
