Remember when Sonic 2 dropped on the Genesis? This one's a weird little hack—SMTP tweaks the original with some fresh level layouts and a couple of new power-ups. Still feels like classic Sonic, but you'll hit spots where the ground suddenly drops out or loops twist in ways that'll throw you off if you're just muscle-memorizing the original.

First time I played, I got wrecked by Chemical Plant Zone's new bottomless pits. Classic Sonic speed, just with some surprises to keep you on your toes. The spin dash works exactly like you remember, though, so at least that muscle memory still pays off.

If you've played Sonic 2 to death, this gives you a reason to pay attention again.
