So, someone actually went and recreated the first chunk of Sonic 2 from scratch for the Genesis—and it’s shockingly close to the real deal. The physics feel right, the loops and springs snap into place like they should, and even the little details, like how Sonic’s feet blur when he’s at top speed, are there. It’s weirdly nostalgic booting this up and realizing how much muscle memory I still have for Chemical Plant Zone.

That said, it’s just Part One—so you’re basically getting everything up to the Casino Night boss. Still, if you’ve ever wanted to relive those early Sonic levels without digging out the original cartridge, this does the trick. The music’s a tiny bit off in places, but honestly? Close enough.
