About Sonic 1 ? The Special Stages (demo)
I've been playing the Sonic 1 Special Stages demo on the Sega Genesis. It was released by Sega, the same company that developed the main Sonic the Hedgehog game. This demo focuses entirely on the bonus stages from the original platformer, giving you a concentrated dose of their unique style separate from the regular side scrolling action.
You control Sonic as he runs through a rotating, maze like stage viewed from behind. Your main goal is to collect a set number of rings before time runs out. The stage itself constantly spins, changing your perspective and the layout of the path, which makes navigation a real challenge. Hitting a bumper or obstacle sends you flying and costs precious seconds. The pacing is frantic, demanding quick reflexes to adjust to the shifting environment. It feels like trying to solve a puzzle while running on a merry go round.
