Ever wondered what Sonic would look like as a cat? SoniNeko is a goofy but surprisingly polished ROM hack that replaces our favorite blue hedgehog with a speedy little feline. Same classic Green Hill Zone loops and chaos emerald hunts, but now you're dodging badniks with a tail and pointy ears.

The physics feel just like the original—which is impressive for a hack—though I kept expecting the cat to climb walls or something. Nope, just good old Genesis-era platforming with a fresh coat of fur. The sprite work's actually cute, especially when you lose rings and SoniNeko does this offended little hiss animation.

If you've played Sonic 1 to death, this gives you an excuse to run through it again with a silly twist. Just don't blame me when you start humming the theme song with "meow" sounds mixed in.
