Snipes is an arcade action game released in 1982 for MS-DOS. Developed and published by SuperSet Software Corp., it presents a top-down perspective within a maze environment. Players control a character navigating a large, randomly generated maze filled with enemy generators called hives. These hives continually produce hostile creatures known as Snipes. The primary objective is to eliminate all hives and every Snipe they spawn to win a round. The player must avoid being shot by the armed Snipes while maneuvering through the maze. Movement is controlled with one set of directional keys, while a separate set of keys is used to aim and fire shots independently, allowing for movement and shooting in eight distinct directions. A spacebar function provides a temporary burst of speed to evade threats.

Before each session, players configure several gameplay parameters that define the challenge. These settings are selected via a letter and a number, which determine environmental rules and enemy quantities. Options include the types and accuracy of enemies, whether diagonal shots ricochet off walls, the consequences of touching maze walls, and the defensive properties of the hives. The numerical setting adjusts the maximum number of Snipes allowed, the initial count of hives placed in the maze, and the number of lives granted to the player. Higher difficulty levels introduce more numerous and aggressive enemies, and the maze walls themselves can become lethal obstacles.
