Silent Hunter: Commander's Edition is a naval simulation game released in 1997 for MS-DOS. Developed by Aeon Electronic Entertainment and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc., this compilation includes the original Silent Hunter game along with three expansion packs. It is a World War II submarine simulator set in the Pacific Theater, offering a first-person perspective as a U.S. submarine commander.

Players assume command of a U.S. submarine, selecting from various vessels to undertake missions from the attack on Pearl Harbor through the end of the war. The primary objective is to sink enemy shipping, with success measured by the total tonnage destroyed. The game features a career mode where commanders complete historical missions and hypothetical scenarios across multiple patrol zones, including the Solomons, the Sea of Japan, the Aleutian Islands, and the Java Sea. Gameplay systems involve navigating coastal waters, conducting reconnaissance, and engaging in tactical submarine combat using a detailed torpedo data computer for targeting.

Progression is tracked through a campaign where players can receive medals and commendations for successful or particularly hazardous missions. The game includes over forty accurately depicted military and civilian ships and fifteen distinct patrol areas. Players can compare their accumulated tonnage and combat scores against the records of historical submarine commanders from the period. Additional content such as World War II film footage, cinematic sequences, and narration is integrated into the simulation experience.
