Shadow Knights is a side-view platform game released in 1990 for the MS-DOS platform. It was developed by id Software, Inc. and published by Softdisk Publishing. The player assumes the role of a ninja tasked with confronting the Shogun of Death to restore peace to the land of Naipusan.

The player progresses through a series of distinct levels, which include environments such as a village, a cemetery, and a castle. Each stage must be completed before advancing to confront the final boss. The primary objective involves navigating these platform-based areas while defeating various enemies that appear, starting with foes like dogs and armed ninjas and introducing additional enemy types in later stages.

Players control the ninja character using a sword for close-range combat against adversaries. The character also possesses a magic system, allowing the player to spend magical energy to launch projectile attacks or to recover health. Golden spheres are placed throughout the levels, and collecting them replenishes the character's depleted magical energy, providing a resource management element to the action-oriented platforming.
